At the beginning of this century, one European
princess was approaching Cetinje,
and delighted with the panorama she exclaimed
“This is the most beautiful remote spot of paradise”. She was
probably on the Orlov krs (Eagle’s rocks) from which one can have
the most beautiful view of the old Montenegrin capitol. The city has
been the main centre of Montenegrin culture
and spirituality for centuries, as well as the
fight for the freedom. Although today, you will meet the former
rulers, dukes, soldiers, ambassadors and consuls, on shaded Cetinje
streets. The authentic old embassies buildings are still the witnesses
of the glorious history of Montenegro. The space between the Monastery and
the Billiard building, bears a resemblance to the famous square of
“Tsar of Bells” in Moscow, after which it was
patterned.
Museums,
galleries, archives, art academies, Cetinje Biennial,
artists and bohemians give this town a unique character.
When visiting Cetinje one should not miss the
monumental Mausoleum
on Mount Lovcen. There you can pay your respect
to the great Montenegrin poet and ruler, Petar II Petrovic Njegos.
