On 906 meters of heighth above the sea level the Plavsko lake is the biggest and the most accessible mountain lake in Montenegro, settled in the “shell” of the massive mountain range of Prokletije and Visitor. The tourist town Plav and the lake seem like they have been building each other.  The lake extends north to south on a distance of 2 160 meters with an average width of 920 meters and the lowest depth of nine meters. On the south side it “receives” the river Ljuca and on the north it “releases” the river Lim. These rivers make the lake always clearly blue. It was obviously named after that color - Plavsko (bluish).

Nature was generous and it endowed this area with other beauties - springs, waterfalls and other lakes like Ridsko and Visitorsko. The Ridsko Lake, 18 km from Plavsko Lake, is located at the mountain of Prokletije under the mountaintop Bogicevica, on 1 790 meters of heighth above sea level. Up until recently you could reach this lake only on foot and now you can go there by car. It is surrounded by the high conifers and it represents one more astonishing “mountain eye” on the rich map of the Montenegrin lakes. “This is a divine gift”, says the legend according to which the gods created this lake for fairies to bath in it far from the human eye! Because of this legend people believe in the healing powers of this lake so even today woman and young girls bath in it naked in order to become more beautiful, healthier and more fertile. Those who bath in the Ridsko Lake usually leave some gift there, for example some coins or they throw some jewelry or even parts of their clothes into the lake.

On the other mountain, Visitor, there is a smaller Visitorsko lake, even heigher above sea level at 1 820 meters. During the summer it is clear and blue and during the winter it freezes. The unusual waterfall Skakvaica is also situated in this area as well as the healing Ali Pasa’s springs. Two hotels next to the Plavsko Lake can accommodate around 400 people.

Meterizi, Medun, Redzepagica, Sabovica are the names of the old quarters of Plav where guests, can also notice new shops as well as some old ones, craft shops and cafeterias. They will also see the old towers and the enclosed porches. The most original preserved monument of this rare architecture is the tower of Redzepagici, the oldest construction in Plav with oriental elements.
